Decompression

Spinal decompression is an optional therapy for individuals who seek treatment for back pain. It can give relief to individuals suffering from chronic back or neck pain, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs and other health conditions that can cause back pain. It is a treatment which decompresses the spine with the use of a modern form of traction.

Arm pain or leg pain, bulging discs, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, sciatica, and pinched nerves are generally attributed to the pressure created by the spine to the vertebral discs. A variety of factors like terrible posture, improper body mechanics, acute injury and persistent tension could cause the vertebrae to slide out of its usual spot or to provide pressure onto the discs.

Generally, compressed discs can lead to two main problems. It may cause a bulge or herniation which would compress a nerve; and it may cause the brittleness of the disc. If left untreated, the problem may get worse because compressed discs restrict proper flow of nutrients needed to allow natural healing.

Spinal decompression is a non-surgical management that grants gentle decompression of the disc through a specially made decompression table. The person will remain on the table while a medical provider would give a distraction force or energy to a particular area in the spine. Concurrently, a computer regulates the energy and provides it during periods of relaxation. Therefore, the spine would be gently pulled apart to make a tiny vacuum between the vertebrae to draw the disc back to its original shape.

If a person has disc herniation, the spinal nerves become pinched and would result to pain. Spinal decompression would provide negative pressure to let the fluid and other vital components to return to the affected area. According to practitioners, the intermittent force and release allows the nutrients to reach and nourish the discs back to its original shape.

The results are different for every case. A number of individuals declare that the pain is improved instantly after the first few applications while there are also others who state that they had more than twenty visits before they felt relief.

Spinal decompression is an alternative FDA permitted therapy that has yielded beneficial outcomes for many individuals. Eventually, the applications permit the disc to heal, reshape normally and let the normal flow of nutrients going to withstand brittleness and other future injuries.
